PARENTING TRIGGERS

Happy Monday 🌈

How do you deal with your parenting triggers? A few months ago our 4 year old son said something that stopped me in my tracks, "Mum, you don't look very smart!". 💨💥💫

My response was, "What?!" with a quivering lip. 🤔Suddenly like that I'd been transported back to my Year 9 Math class that I shared with a boy that I had, had a crush on for a long time. Why was it that every time the teacher asked me to answer the Math question, I couldn't? 🙄 I had felt so humiliated and every time I went to our Math class I was consumed by the thought: Man, this boy is going to think I'm not smart at all!

And like that our son had unconsciously triggered my 14 year old self's lack of confidence. My reactions were the same - low self esteem, I couldn't find the words to communicate with Ethan and I pulled away. 💨💥 I shared that I was triggered and needed to take myself away to process the emotion and used the Emotionally Happy Homes® tool, "Body, back to present age". ☯☮

Only then, could I return and contribute to our son and understand his words. I said, “Love help me understand your point of view?” Did he think he wasn't smart, did he have a point of view on what smart looked like or had he taken on someone else's perspective?

Triggers can do that - bring up our own unmet/unhealed emotions and it's only always an opportunity to understand ourselves on a deeper level. What parts of yourself can you love more wholeheartedly? 🌞⭐🌟 I also felt so much gratitude for our son because I didn't even realise that emotion from the past was still in me! 🎈🎆

Please know that you are so welcome to email me back if you have any questions or if there is anything I can help you with. 💚 Here's to creating Emotionally Happy Homes® 💕

Have a wonderful week ahead! 😘😘

Sending you all so much love,

Kirsten
